From 1967 - 1981 served on oil tankers, bulk-carriers, and dry cargo vessels in all ranks up to Chief Engineer with London & Overseas Freighters and Graig Shipping of Cardiff, during which time experience was gained in the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of main and auxiliary machinery and automated control systems, including attending as Chief Engineer during the construction of a bulk carrier in Hakodate, Japan.
